Our History/Nuestra Historia
The Lutheran Church has been present in Elizabeth, NJ since 1858. In the one hundredth anniversary The Rev. Heinz W. Kugler wrote:
St. Paul says: “NOW is the acceptable time; NOW is the day of salvation.” This “NOW” means us – the present congregation … It is a challenge for us to use what our forefathers have brought into being and match our devotion and zeal with theirs in order that all our time in His Service at St. Mark’s may always be “acceptable time” to God and therefore become a “Day of Salvation” to us and others.
These remarkable words still apply to the Latino Mission of Santa Isabel. We have a great challenge to preserve and strengthen the physical and spiritual presence of the Lutheran church in Elizabeth, NJ to the glory and honor of God and “therefore become a Day of Salvation to us and others.”
